A compelling story of faith, family – and forgiveness

Author Monica Carter has penned a heartwarming family drama in Sacrifice the One, released in April 2007 by UrbanChristian/Kensington. Sacrifice the One asks the question: Is there any sacrifice too great for love?

Monica Carter weaves a tale of tough emotions, tender hearts, and
a glimmer of hope. When Robert loses his beloved wife shortly after childbirth, he is devastated. With all their life's plans suddenly dashed, he lashes out in anger — at the child who reminds him too much of the wife he loved and lost.

For her part, that daughter, Seta, tries all she can to gain her father’s attention as she grows up, but nothing seems to work. And after countless tries, when being good gets her nowhere, she decides
being bad is worth a try. And she's on a quest for love and attention
— from any man who is willing to give it.

Seta's decisions take her down a dangerous path that threatens everything she has worked so hard to gain. Will her father realize his error before it's too late? Can he save his daughter — and will she let him?

What sacrifice would you make for love?

Excerpts

Robert plunged into the explanation. “I got married a few days ago.”
The words didn’t make sense to Seta. How could he have gotten married? She had just talked to him a few days, barely a week ago. And she had seen him ... When had she last seen him?
How could he have gotten married? How could he have gotten a new family? A new daughter? He already had a daughter.

Seta lay in bed that night listening to the silence. For the first time in a long time, she fingered the picture of the woman. She wondered what she was like for everybody to love her. Seta wished she could be like that — whatever that was. She imagined that life for her mother must have been easy. It had to have been. Everybody loved her. She was beautiful. At just the mention of her name, people would get sad with missing her.
Nobody would ever miss her, Seta knew. They didn’t even want her around. Her grandmother wanted to put her out and her father never even called for her.

It had taken her a lifetime to get there, but she was finally ready. Maybe she could finally forgive him.
As imperfect as she was and God accepted her, surely she could forgive her father. Yes, he had made mistakes, but like Ms. Nettie said, so does everyone. The angry ice around Seta’s heart had finally thawed. God is love, Ms. Nettie had said. And if I am to be like God, I must show love too.
“I found out about the scholarship,” she said. “Thank you, Daddy.”
Roberts voice caught in his throat. For a moment, he said nothing. “You’re welcome.”

Reviews

Monica P. Carter has crafted an excellent novel that deals with grief, love, lies, and loss. — The RAWSISTAZ Reviewers, www.rawsistaz.com

Ms. Carter is one of the better storytellers I know. Her stories are tight and circular and thick with real plot. Sacrifice the One is no exception. — Michelle D. McGriff, author

Readers will find this novel to be an emotional read! Seta's pain and vulnerability is so raw at times, the reader can easily find herself identifying with the rejection and longing for love. The way Seta's deceased mother is able to reach her daughter beyond the grave is truly a testament to the power of love. — T. Moody, Amazon reviewer

“Sacrifice the One contains all the elements of a good read — love, loss, family secrets, deception, and rejection. Once the book is started, it is impossible to put down.”
Tannie Bradley, Sistahs Book Club

“I am not normally an overly emotional person, but Sacrifice The One stirred emotions in me that I pride myself in controlling.”
